| Megan gets straight to the poinsettia. |
If Megan could only eat one food everyday for the rest of her life, it would be a Bojangles’ bacon, egg and cheese biscuit…and a glass of sweet tea. (“On second thought,” she says, “watermelon might be a healthier choice.”) But truth be told, Megan is actually a veggie lover who’s found that nothing beats the taste of fresh-picked vegetables. (“And they’re fun to grow,” she adds.) This North Carolina native has been playing in the dirt (or rather a custom-mixed, peat-based growing media) since she was barely as tall as a greenhouse bench. In fact, she still helps her folks grow vegetable transplants, flowering bedding plants, potted annuals and perennials, foliage baskets and poinsettias. Floriculture is her forte, and when she’s not writing about gardening, she can usually be found in the greenhouse. Megan and her husband Andy are also hobby farmers with pigs, chickens, honeybees and a rather substantial garden. (She doesn’t mind gathering eggs, but beyond that, she prefers to stick to the plants and leave the rest of the animal tending to Andy.) She enjoys reading and crafting, and she happily encourages others to “go play in the dirt…but don’t forget your sunscreen!”
