Bosh Bruening
Bosh is a royally good guy.
“I must confess, I am not a ‘passionate gardener,’” Bosh reports. “My passion is for classic cars and photography.” But this third-generation nurseryman has “been in the field” for a lifetime, and while he may not feel “passionate” about his garden, he certainly takes pride in it. His current “canvas” is the 2 acres his home sits on. In the five years he and his family have been there, Bosh has built a garden shed (you’ve gotta read his article on that one), planted 37 tree-spade-size trees, over 200 yews and over 100 roses, etc. (You get the picture. And we’re sure he’s not ready to stop there, either.) Part of Bosh’s great experience and gardening talent comes from when he “apprenticed” in his family’s nursery/garden center in Missouri. He has also owned a garden center and production nursery in the Kansas City area, as well as represented various wholesale nursery growers in a seven-state territory. He’s past president of the Kansas City Association of Nurserymen, Missouri Nursery & Landscape Association and the Western Association of Nurseries. As if that weren’t already impressive, Bosh has held numerous committee chairmanships in the American Nursery & Landscape Association (ANLA), including Public Relations, Wholesale Plant Sales Professionals and others. He now serves on the White House Grounds Advisory Committee for the ANLA.

  • “I spend spare time outside (and inside for that matter) out of pride, not passion. I don’t know if there is a difference in the end product or the satisfaction. … I love to see the end result.”

  • H. Marc Cathey, Ph.D.
Marc believes that gardening is based on assembling and coordinating factors such as light, temperature, water and nutrients – all the while coping with wind, rain (too much…not enough), wild fluctuations in temperature, critters and a gardener’s age. (Whew!) Good thing this eternally youthful man with a creative streak a mile long never gets tired!
  • Megan Bame
Megan’s got pigs, chickens and honeybees instead of the typical dog, cat and goldfish. When this floriculture expert and hobby-farmer isn’t writing about gardening, she’s usually in the greenhouse – where she’s been playing in a custom-mixed, peat-based growing media since she was barely as tall as a growing bench.
  • Welcome to the Garden Shed
One man’s garden shed is another man’s adventure into the world of construction. Learn2Grow’s own Bosh Bruening shares his experience in building (what he thought would be) a simple garden shed in his back yard. (He did it, though, and it looks great!)
