Mark Mller with butterfly
Mark's pet goes everywhere with him.
Born and raised in northeast Ohio, Mark is an 8th generation Ohio gardener who can tell you anything you might ever want to know about the great Buckeye State. After receiving his B.S. at The Ohio State University, he served as a tree crop specialist, agricultural researcher and educator on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia (and went to the beach just about every day). Upon returning to Ohio, he initiated a vocational horticulture program at the Ohio Reformatory for Women and survived the toughest student audience he ever had. Mark later completed his M.A., then designed landscapes and taught horticulture part-time. He worked for the American Horticultural Society as Horticulturist, Co-Director of Education and Deputy Director of Programs. Returning to Ohio State, Mark completed a Ph.D. in Environment & Natural Resources in 2005. He has served as a consultant and evaluator on a variety of projects and has authored, co-authored or contributed to a number of published works.

Mark’s mother Joan and stepfather John gamely attempt to maintain his designed garden masterpiece in Louisville, OH; his sister Christine has given up having the yard of the month in Houston, TX; his daughter Morgan couldn’t care less about plants in Melbourne, Australia; and he keeps in touch with many plant-loving friends and family throughout the US and abroad.

  • Jennifer Hooks
An Illinois native, Jenny killed a cactus in college (but swears it was an accident). Ironically, she now lives among the cacti in the Arizona desert. This editing professional is still learning the tricks of desert-gardening, but she’s happy to report that the cacti around her remain among the living.
  • Donna W. Moramarco
As a toddler, Donna used her mother’s tablespoons to dig in the dirt. Today she tends to use more traditional gardening tools. She’s a fifth-generation horticulturist, garden expert and published author. (And if she had to pick only one food to eat for the rest of her life, it would be pizza.)
