The Genus™ bypass pruners are a great tool for any Scout-turned-gardener – or any outdoor lover with a desire to always be prepared!
Think you’ve seen everything when it comes to new garden gadgets? Whether you’re a gardening novice or an expert green thumb, here are some neat new picks that might come in handy for the next growing season:

The Genus™
Now here’s a type of Leatherman® you’ve never seen before: stainless steel bypass pruners with a rotating handle that stores a set of tools. Just push a button and flip the handle around, and your pruners suddenly reveal a Phillips screwdriver, a fine-edged knife, sprinkler head adjustment tool/flat screwdriver, a diamond-coated file and a serious saw. Other features include an open-end adjustment wrench and soft-wire cutters. (They’re pruners with an attitude…oh, and a bottle opener.) For more information, visit www.leatherman.com.

CatStop®
Have you had it with stray or neighbor cats roaming around your yard, hanging in your flower beds or using your child’s sandbox for things other than building sand castles? Before you release the hounds, here’s a product you might want to try: CatStop® is an automatic cat deterrent designed to safely keep felines out of your garden. When cats come within range, the product sends out a motion-activated burst of ultrasonic sound that humans can’t hear, startling cats and running them off (perhaps to tell other cats). Installation is reportedly as easy as just placing it the garden. CatStop monitors an area of up to 280 square feet and operates on a 9-volt battery. (And when the cats are away, the homeowners can play!) For more information, visit www.contech-inc.com.

Facts
  • While chimeneas are popular garden accessories, they don’t emit heat in a 360-degree circle, like fire pits do.
Definitions
  • Bypass pruners: Hand pruners with sharp, curved, scissors-type blades that overlap each other. (They can cut branches up to ¾ inches in diameter.)
