Potomac crapemyrtle is a heat-loving, multi-stemmed large deciduous shrub descended from a native of eastern Asia. By midsummer it bears clusters of crinkled, pure pink flowers at its branch tips. Although this selection is naturally upright in its habit, lower branches can be removed to ensure it takes on a small tree form. Autumn brings out orange tones in its leaves.

This hybrid crapemyrtle, 'Powhatan,' is a heat-loving, multi-stemmed, broad-crowned, large shrub. By midsummer it bears clusters of crinkled, pinkish purple flowers at its branch tips amid lush mid-green leaves. Removing spent clusters encourage more flowering. In autumn, the leaves turn shades of yellow and orange, and in winter the attractive light gray and brown bark becomes the main feature.
