James Burghardt
(Large-cupped Daffodil)
A cheerful, long-lived, early-blooming daffodil introduced more than 60 years ago, this large-cupped hybrid is still popular in gardens. The very broad, bright buttercup-yellow "petals" frame a shallow, bowl-shaped, yellow cup with a wide-flaring, ruffled, orange-rimmed mouth. The solitary, horizontal to slightly up-facing blooms appear in early spring on calf-high stems.
Daffodils are hardy, long-lived, clump-forming bulbs. Unlike tulips they are poisonous, so they are not eaten by small mammals...

(Double Daffodil)
The huge but elegant blooms of this double daffodil have several whorls of silky white "petals" surrounding a frilly ruff of apricot-pink segments. The solitary, out-facing blooms perch on knee-high stems from mid to late spring, at the end of the daffodil season.
Daffodils are hardy, long-lived, clump-forming bulbs. Unlike tulips they are poisonous, so they are not eaten by small mammals and their top growth is not browsed by deer.

(Large-cupped Daffodil)
The picture of elegance, this large-cupped daffodil bears pure porcelain-white flowers on relatively compact stems from early to mid-spring, midway through the daffodil season. The six very broad, oval "petals" are smooth and blunt-tipped; the inner three are shouldered at their base. The long, narrowly funnel-shaped cup is irregularly ribbed and has a lightly ruffled and pleated rim. The solitary blooms are horizontal or slightly inclined.

(Double Daffodil)
A double-flowered sport of the famous 'Carlton,' 'Dick Wilden' bears sunny, relatively small flowers early in the daffodil season. Greenish yellow "petals" surround a central pompon of numerous densely packed deep-yellow segments. The solitary, out-facing flowers appear on medium-tall stems in early spring. This cultivar was introduced in 1962.

(Doctor Hugh Daffodil, Small-cupped Daffodil)
One of the most decorated daffodils in its class (with awards including the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit), the division 3 hybrid 'Doctor Hugh' bears large flowers with pure white petals/tepals and a small, flat, bright orange, green-eyed cup. They are held singly on tall stems in mid-spring, rather late in the daffodil season.

(Double Daffodil, Duration Daffodil)
A recently introduced cultivar hybridized by Jackson's Daffodils in Tasmania, 'Duration' bears fully double flowers with four tiers of creamy-white petals/tepals and a central orange frill. The flowers are borne from mid- to late spring, late in the daffodil season.
Daffodils are hardy, long-lived, clump-forming bulbs. Unlike tulips they are poisonous, so they are not eaten by small mammals and their green tops are not browsed by deer.

(Dutch Master Daffodil, Trumpet Daffodil)
Big, bright, and bold, the cultivar 'Dutch Master' is the epitome of "daffodil". The large, brash, golden yellow flowers with long, flared, frilled trumpets and slightly forward-swept "petals" are borne on tall stems in early spring. This cultivar received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

(Tazetta Daffodil)
Few daffodils have as high a "cute" quotient as the Cyclamineus hybrids, and this 1979 introduction is no exception. The solitary nodding blooms have yellow "petals" surrounding a small cup-shaped deep orange corona. The petals age to gold, and the corona is short and ruffled. The flowers appear on compact stems in early to mid-spring, midway in the daffodil season.

(Cyclamineus Daffodil)
A fragrant Cyclamineus-type daffodil, 'February Gold' bears fully lemony yellow flowers with petals that angle backward as if they are facing a strong wind. They bloom in midwinter, but later in colder winter areas. This hybrid dating to 1923 is still available in the trade and well worth planting. February Gold daffodils are among the most reliable perennial spring-flowering bulbs, especially in milder winter regions such as the American Deep South and Southern California.
