This maple grows best in moist well drained soil and part shade. Japanese maples are very versatile; they work well as a garden specimen, in containers, and for bonsai.

The lobes are often twisted and curled. Fall color is yellow. Clusters of red flowers dangle from the branches in spring, followed by small green two-winged fruits that mature to red-brown.
