Although a large flower of the Wabash bearded iris looks to be a simple bicolor, close inspection reveals lots of blended pigmentation. This hybrid perennial selection was bred by Mary Williamson and introduced in 1936. It received multiple awards, culminating with the American Dykes Medal in 1940, the highest accolade awarded by the British Iris Society for American-bred irises.
