The numerous, wavy-edged, red petals of 'Cup of Beauty (United States)' flowers almost resemble those of a tropical hibiscus. This Japanese camellia has unknown origins but was first selected from a historic plant growing at Magnolia Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina. This cultivar is therefore always designated with "United States" to distinguish it from the original 'Cup of Beauty', which came directly from China centuries ago.
