Common boxwood is a dense, rounded, broadleaf-evergreen shrub grown for its glossy green foliage and neat habit. Native to Europe, North Africa and Turkey, the cultivar 'Pier Cove' was selected by Wavecrest Nursery in southwestern Michigan for its faster growth rate and greater resilience to winter cold. It tolerates shearing and naturally attains an upright, rounded silhouette, sometimes looking almost column-like. Its small, dark green leaves give a sheared plant a tidy and fine texture.
