(Large-cupped Daffodil)
As striking in form as it is in coloration, the large-cupped hybrid 'Berlin' opens its large out-facing blooms in early to mid-spring, midway throught the daffodil season. The vivid greenish-yellow petals frame a bright yellow, orange-rimmed, saucer-shaped corona which is remarkable for its heavy ruffling and ribbing. It is also deeply lobed. The six exceptionally broad, rounded "petals" are creased at their centers and cupped at their edges. Flowers are borne singly on calf-high stems.

(Cyclamineus Daffodil)
Few daffodils have as high a "cute" quotient as the Cyclamineus hybrids, and this antique, more than century-old cultivar is no exception. The solitary nodding blooms have upturned, oval, greenish-yellow "petals" surrounding a small cup-shaped orange-yellow corona. The petals age to creamy-white, and the corona is fluted and orange-rimmed. The flowers appear on compact stems in early to mid-spring, midway in the daffodil season.

(Small-cupped daffodil)
A perky presence in the early spring garden, the small-cupped daffodil 'Birma' opens its yellow, orange-cupped blooms toward the beginning of the daffodil season. The six broadly overlapping, golden-yellow "petals" have a prominent central ridge; the narrowly funnel-shaped cup is fluted, wavy-edged, and occasionally split. Flowers are borne singly on medium, calf-high stems. This heirloom variety was raised in 1938.

(Large-cupped Daffodil)
Starched and pristine, like a girl's birthday dress before the party, the medium-sized, slightly nodding flowers of this large-cupped hybrid are of good substance and greenish-white hue. The six broad, flat "petals" have a prominent mid-crease; the slightly fluted, tubular corona turns out slightly and gracefully at its tip. Flowers are borne singly on medium-tall, calf-high stems. This lovely cultivar was introduced in 1983 by famed hybridizer Brian Duncan of Northern Ireland.

(Daffodil)
A hybrid of Narcissus cyclamineus, this 1979 introduction from famed Oregon breeder Grant Mitsch possesses that species' backswept petals, as well as much of its charm. Borne one or two per stem (rather than singly, as in most hybrids of N. cyclamineus), the small, nodding blooms have lemon-yellow petals and orange, cup-shaped coronas. The intensity of the orange coloration varies with the weather. The flowers appear on compact stems in early to mid-spring, midway in the...

(Bossa Nova Daffodil, Small-cupped daffodil)
A small-cup daffodil that brings a big splash of color to the spring garden, 'Bossa Nova' bears solitary flowers with peachy-yellow petals/tepals and a glowing orange-red cup. The flowers are borne on tall stems in the middle of the daffodil season (early to mid-spring).
Daffodils are hardy, long-lived, clump-forming bulbs that are good for naturalizing. Unlike tulips they are poisonous, so they are not eaten by small mammals and their green tops are not browsed by deer.

(Bridal Crown Daffodil, Double Daffodil)
One of the earliest double daffodils, 'Bridal Crown' opens its clusters of fragrant, porcelain-white, yellow-flecked pom-poms in early to mid spring. This cultivar received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

(Brooke Ager Daffodil, Large-cupped Daffodil)
Recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, this recent introduction bears striking flowers on compact stems from early to mid-spring. Broad, rounded, porcelain-white, pink-tinged petals/tepals surround a glowing deep-apricot cup with orange undertones.

(Papillon Daffodil, Split-corona Daffodil)
Named for their broad, deeply lobed cups, Papillon hybrids are the exotic butterflies of the daffodil world. Introduced in 1958, 'Burning Heart' has an orange, yellow-edged corona that is split to its base and mounted on a pale yellow perianth. The perianth's six "petals" are very broad with pointed tips. The segments of the corona – which alternate with those of the perianth – have incurled margins. The flowers are borne singly on relatively short stems. They open in mid-spring, toward the end of...
