ACER palmatum 'Chitose-yama'
Chitose-yama Japanese Maple, Japanese Maple
A deciduous tree native to eastern Asia, the beautiful and ubiquitous Japanese maple is a garden staple. The cultivar 'Chitose-yama' develops a broad mounded canopy and packs a powerful punch when it comes to ornamental value. This fine selection has very finely divided green to burgundy palmate leaves that turn brilliant purple, orange and red in the fall.
Elegant and adaptable, Japanese maple prefers sites with rich, well-drained soil and part sun to part shade. It sows itself into the garden with efficacy, but this should not dissuade anyone from growing it. Japanese maple is versatile in the landscape and may be grown as a feature plant, in a mixed border, or trained for bonsai.
