ACER palmatum 'Oridono-nishiki'
Japanese Maple, Oridono-nishiki Japanese Maple
Japanese maple is a small deciduous tree native to eastern Asia. This beautiful selection features small, deeply lobed, palmate (hand-shaped), curled leaves which emerge white and pink and mature to white, pink, and green. This is one of the best maples for consistent and vivid leaf variegation. In addition, the bark has cream and pink stripes. In winter, gray branches add to its landscape appeal. Shrubby when young, it matures into a small, rounded tree.
Japanese maple prefers sites with rich, well-drained acidic soil and part sun to part shade. This cultivar is versatile in the landscape and may be grown as a feature plant, in a mixed border, or in a container. Make sure to give it a dark background to showcase its foliage.
