ACER palmatum 'Oshio-beni'
Japanese Maple, Oshio-beni Japanese Maple
The beautiful and ubiquitous Japanese maple is a small deciduous tree native to eastern Asia. Its cultivar 'Oshio-beni' features deeply divided, seven-lobed, palmate (hand-shaped) leaves that emerge bright orange-red in spring, mature to dull bronze, and finally turn brilliant scarlet in fall. The gray bark is attractive throughout the year.
For most effective growth this maple prefers a semi-moist soil and part shade. It works well as a garden specimen, in containers, and for bonsai.
