Family

Aceraceae

Botanical Name

ACER palmatum var. dissectum 'Inaba-shidare'

Plant Common Name

Dissected Japanese Maple, Inaba-shidare Dissected Japanese Maple

General Description

The colorful, lacy foliage of Inaba-shidare dissected Japanese maple can't be beat. Asian in origin, this deciduous tree has a smaller stature than other Japanese maples and sports an upright to mounded habit. Its fine leaves are distinctly dark purple-red throughout the growing season and turn brilliant red fall.

This adaptable tree prefers sites with rich, well drained soil and part sun to part shade. It may self sow in the garden, but this should not dissuade anyone from growing it. A versatile landscape plant, dissected Japanese maple may be grown as a feature plant, in a mixed border, or as a bonsai. This cultivar may also be called 'Red Select' in the trade.
