Autumn Fantasy™ Maple, Freeman's Maple
Freeman's maple is a large to medium-sized deciduous tree, a cross between two North American natives, Acer rubrum (red maple) and Acer saccharinum (silver maple). Autumn Fantasy™ is a vigorous hybrid, fast growing with an oval crown. The leaves have deep lobes and turn vivid crimson fall color. Conspicuous clusters of small red flowers in late winter and early spring are followed by winged yellow-brown fruits in summer.
Freeman’s maples prefer full-sun and well-drained, moist soil which is slightly acidic. They have some drought tolerance once well established. The make good shade or street trees in residential or high-traffic public areas.
