Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
ACER x freemanii 'Scarsen'(SCARLET SENTINEL™)
Freeman's maple is a large to medium-sized deciduous tree, a cross between two North American natives, Acer rubrum (red maple) and Acer saccharinum (silver maple). Scarlet Sentinel™ is a vigorous, fast-growing hybrid with a broad columnar to oval crown with upright branches. The large, five-lobed leaves vary are dark green in summer and dull yellow to bright red in fall. This fast-growing male cultivar has bright red flowers in late winter or early spring, but no fruit.
Freeman’s maples prefer full-sun and well-drained, moist soil which is slightly acidic. They have some drought tolerance once well established. They make good shade or street trees for residential or public areas.
