ACHILLEA millefolium 'Rosy Red'

James H. Schutte

Family

Asteraceae

Botanical Name

ACHILLEA millefolium 'Rosy Red'

Plant Common Name

Common Yarrow, Rosy Red Common Yarrow

General Description

From early through midsummer, yarrow 'Rosy Red' offers large flat-topped clusters of vivid carmine red flowers that fade to paler tints of cool pink with age. The bright blooms are held on slender stems atop vigorous, rhizomatous clumps of fine, ferny, aromatic foliage. They are attractive to butterflies, and also make lovely cut flowers.

Common yarrow is a carefree, drought-tolerant species native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Easily grown in full to part sun and average, well-drained soil, it spreads enthusiastically and may require division every two to three years to keep it within bounds. Blooming is prolonged by regular removal of faded flower stems. This classic perennial is perfect for mixed borders, wildflower plantings or casual cottage-style gardens.
