Family

Asteraceae

Botanical Name

ACHILLEA millefolium 'Terracotta'

Plant Common Name

Common Yarrow, Terracotta Common Yarrow

General Description

This outstanding yarrow cultivar offers endless design possibilities with its tapestry of warm, sunset hued flowers and soft gray-green foliage. The dense, flat-topped flower clusters are blushing orange when new, fading to paler shades of apricot and ivory with age. They are carried on slender stems above spreading clumps of fine, ferny leaves from early to midsummer.

This tough, easy-care perennial performs best in full sun and moist, reasonably fertile, well-drained soil, but will tolerate dry conditions and light shade. Blooming may be prolonged by regular removal of faded flower stems. If necessary, divide plants every two to three years in spring or fall. ‘Terra Cotta’ harmonizes beautifully with other perennials, and is a lovely choice for mixed borders or casual cottage-style gardens. Its pastel blooms are attractive to butterflies, and also make excellent cut flowers.
