ACHILLEA 'Paprika'

Image of Achillea 'Paprika' (GALAXY SERIES)

Marian Keith

Family

Asteraceae

Botanical Name

ACHILLEA 'Paprika'( GALAXY SERIES)

Plant Common Name

Hybrid Yarrow

General Description

Bred in Germany, 'Paprika' decorates the summer garden with many flat-topped clusters of deep red flowers with tiny yellow centers. This hybrid is member of the popular Galaxy Series, which was developed by crossing common yarrow (Achillea millefolium) with the yellow-flowered Achillea ‘Taygetea’. It forms a healthy clump of fine, ferny, green foliage which spreads more politely than that of common yarrow. Its dense, jewel-toned flower clusters bloom atop sturdy stems from early through midsummer, and are irresistible to butterflies.

This tough, easy-care perennial performs best in full sun and moist, reasonably fertile, well-drained soil, but will tolerate dry conditions and light shade. Blooming may be prolonged by regular removal of faded flower stems. If necessary, divide plants every two to three years in spring or fall. Ideal for mixed borders and casual cottage-style gardens, its bright blooms also make excellent cut flowers.
