General Description

The tall-stemmed 'High Tide White' is a vigorous, well-branched, heavily flowering flossflower selection that form mounds of foliage. This tender perennial is widely planted as a bedding annual and will bloom all season long. It is the tallest growing bedding flossflower on the market.

The tall, well-branching, bushy plants have lush, deep green leaves. When temperatures are warm and growing conditions good, they produce big clusters of button-like flowers on tall stems with sturdiness; plants are either blue or white flowering, the latter growing taller than the blue-flowering cultivar. Bees and butterflies flock to the blooms. Deadheading will encourage vigorous flowering and keep plants looking pretty although members in the High Tide Series are generally self-cleaning of their old flowers.

Vigorous and easy to grow, 'High Tide White' performs best in sites with full sun and average to fertile loam with good drainage. Partial sun is tolerated in hottest regions but elsewhere full sun is usually best. Average water and regular fertilizer for flowering are recommended. Rarely bothered by deer, flossflower is lovely in containers or mixed borders and pairs well with other brightly colored, sun-loving ornamentals. In tropical or subtropical zones it survives all year long as an evergreen perennial although its flowering wanes in summer's intense heat. It may also self-sow if the growing season is long and mild.
