Flossflower, Tycoon Ageratum
This entry has yet to be reviewed and approved by L2G editors.
The branching, dwarf flossflowers in the Tycoon Series are compact plants that tend to reflower readily from secondary branches in a range of white, violet-pink or lavender-blue. These tender perennials are widely planted as bedding annuals and will bloom all season long.
These bushy plants have lush, deep green leaves. When temperatures are warm and growing conditions good, they produce airy clusters of button-like flowers with spidery petals that attract bees and butterflies. Deadheading will encourage vigorous flowering and keep plants looking pretty.
Vigorous and easy to grow, flossflowers perform best in sites with full sun and average to fertile loam with good drainage. Partial sun is tolerated in hottest regions but elsewhere full sun is usually best. Average water and regular fertilizer for flowering are recommended. Rarely bothered by deer, Tycoon Series flossflowers are lovely in small containers or mixed border foregrounds, as edging and pair well with other brightly colored, sun-loving ornamentals. In tropical or subtropical zones these survive all year long as evergreen perennials although their flowering wanes in summer's intense heat. They may also self-sow if the growing season is long and mild.
