Chocolate Chip Common Bugleweed, Common Bugleweed
Chocolate chip common bugleweed is an evergreen to semi-evergreen, perennial groundcover with glossy leaves of chocolaty bronze. This shade-loving plant is European in origin and spreads rapidly by stolons to form a dense carpet of showy vegetation. Spikes of pretty rich blue flowers appear in late spring and early summer. Plants will tolerate poor soils but perform best in those that are evenly moist and well drained. Divide plantings every two to three years to prevent overcrowding and possible disease problems. Common bugleweed is by far one of the best groundcovers for shade.
