Family

Ranunculaceae

Botanical Name

ANEMONE multifida 'Rubra'

Plant Common Name

Pacific Anemone, Red Pacific Anemone

General Description

This cultivar of Windflower, a native of the U.S., blooms from late spring to early summer with a profusion of carmine-red flowers that have a yellow center. A hardy, herbaceous perennial, ‘Rubra’ branches from its base to make a low mound of airy leaves that are cut into narrow, linear leaflets. The flower stems, which are tall and stout, rise above the plant and end in an umbel of two or three upward-facing flowers that give way to fluffy, globe-shaped seed heads.

Give ‘Rubra’ a site in full sun with rich, well-drained, moist soil. This small charmer is good choice for a rock garden, a mixed border, or the edge of a woodland.
