The Alonia™ Series of summer snapdragon produce numerous flowers on rounded plants with upright stems. Tolerant of heat, humidity and both dry and wet soils, it's difficult to not find a garden nook for these tender perennials to prosper. The Alonia™ collection produces flowers that are intense blue, dark blue, purple, lavender-pink, rose or white. At least six cultivars exist.
Narrowleaf angelonia, or summer snapdragon, is an upright warm season perennial that originates from Mexico and the islands of the West Indies. The neat clump-forming plants are evergreen in frost-free zones and are commonly grown as bedding annuals in areas with harsh winters.
When conditions are warm and accommodating, summer snapdragon will bloom and bloom. These flowers attract bees or occasional butterflies, and are good for cutting.
These tough ornamentals can take both heat and drought once established. Full sun and well-drained, average soil are all that’s needed for good growth. An occasional bout with soggy soil doesn't faze summer snapdragons in the Alonia™ Series. Light fertilization will encourage vigorous bloom as will light deadheading. Enjoy summer snapdragons in containers, or mixed beds and borders. They pair well with any other showy bedding plants, especially with contrasting large-sized flowers or leaves.
