General Description

The very heat-tolerant Carita™ Raspberry angelonia branches freely and produces loose flower spikes. Flower blossom color is fuchsia-hot pink with a burgundy and white spotted throat. The cultivar ‘Car Rasp', always marketed as Carita™ Raspberry, has a mounded to partially floppy habit with upright stems.

Angelonia, or summer snapdragon, is a tender perennial native to Mexico and the West Indies which is often planted as a warm-season annual. The green leaves are lance-shaped and evergreen only in frost-free zones. Tall spikes of tubular, two-lipped, snapdragon-like flowers appear throughout the growing season.

Carita™ summer snapdragons do best in sites with full sun and average, well drained soil. They're freeze sensitive but will take a few degrees of frost. They also tolerate lots of summertime heat, though flower production slows or ceases in the hottest weather. Plant in the fall and late winter in hot, frost-free areas. Summer snapdragons are very drought-tolerant once established though an occasional application of water during the driest times will enhance flowering. Occasionally soggy conditions aren't troublesome either. The flower spikes are long lasting as cut flowers and deadheading -- removal of spent flowers -- is not required. Carita™ Raspberry is beautiful in beds, containers and borders, expecially juxtaposing large-flowered or big-leaved plants.
