Commonly called golden Marguerite or ox-eye chamomile, Anthemis tinctoria is a fast-growing clump-forming perennial with many golden daisies. This easy-to-grow ornamental originates from Europe, has a bushy habit and puts forth ferny green foliage in spring. It flowers from late spring to summer offering a mass of small golden yellow daisies with golden centers. These are lightly fragrant and attractive to butterflies.
Golden Marguerite needs full sun, average to fertile soil with good drainage and is surprisingly drought tolerant once established. One down side to growing this plant is its tendency to self-sow. It helps to cut back its spent flowers to keep seeds from setting.
Any plant with the name "tinctoria" in the botanical name is a natural dye plant. Historically, Anthemis tinctoria was used to make a bright yellow dye for textiles. This sun-loving perennial is ideal for mixed borders and pairs well with foxgloves and delphiniums.
