Family

Scrophulariaceae

Botanical Name

ANTIRRHINUM majus 'Liberty Lavender'( LIBERTY SERIES)

Plant Common Name

Liberty Lavender Snapdragon, Snapdragon

General Description

Commonly grown as annuals, snapdragons are actually short-lived perennials that originate from southwestern Europe and the Mediterranean. Liberty Lavender snapdragons bear upright spikes of puffy, distinctly lipped, bright lavender flowers that snap open and shut when squeezed, hence the name “snapdragon". Liberty Lavender snapdragons are medium sized and make long lasting bedding plants, container specimens and cut flowers. Flowering from summer into autumn with regular deadheading, they may rest from blooming during the hottest weather. In areas with hot, humid summers and mild winters snapdragons are excellent winter annuals that will bloom until summer.

Easy to grow and sun-loving, snapdragons grow best in sharply-drained, slightly acid, fertile garden soil. They flower best if spent flower spikes are removed and plants are fed regularly. When weather is very hot they may cease from blooming for a spell. Enjoy these fine bedding plants in containers and mixed beds and borders.
