General Description

Well suited to bloom during short daylengths of early spring in a wide array of floral colors, the Montego Series of snapdragons are short-lived tender perennials (often used simply as annuals) that are quite short-growing. From southwestern Europe and the Mediterranean, they bear early-season flowerspikes of distinctly lipped flowers that snap open and shut when squeezed, hence the name “snapdragon". Regarded for their good branching and shorter mature height, Montego Series plants will flower from very early spring to fall, if spent flowerspikes are removed, and come in nearly 15 different blossom colors with green foliage. When weather is very hot they will cease blooming, reblooming again in the cooler temperatures of autumn.

Grow the very pretty-flowering Montego Series snapdragons in full sun and moist, well-drained, average soil that has organic matter and moisture. Often used as an annual plant in regions with mild and cool summers, the snapdragon is best reared outside of summer in the subtropics. Place a dry, thick mulch over plants in colder climates to help them overwinter without damage. Enjoy these vigorous snapdragons massed in annual beds on in containers for glorious color. Their smaller heights allows them to pair well with both tulips and pansies for a springtime bedding display.
