General Description

Well-branching and fast growing and quick to flower in the earliest days of spring, the Solstice Series of snapdragons are short-lived tender perennials (often used simply as annuals) that reach knee-height. From southwestern Europe and the Mediterranean, they bear very early-season flowerspikes (perhaps even in late winter) distinctly lipped flowers that snap open and shut when squeezed, hence the name “snapdragon". Regarded for their good branching and mockery of frost, Solstice Series plants will flower from very late winter to fall, if spent flowerspikes are removed, and come in a handful of cheerfully different blossom colors with green foliage. When weather is very warm they will cease blooming, seeding and reblooming again in the colder temperatures of autumn.

Grow the extremely fast-growing and early flowering Solstice Series snapdragons in full sun and moist, well-drained, average soil that has organic matter and moisture. Often used as an annual plant in regions with mild winters, the snapdragon is best reared outside of summer in warm or hot summer regions. Place a dry, thick mulch over plants in colder climates to help them overwinter without damage. Enjoy these branched snapdragons massed in annual beds on in containers for glorious color in earliest days of spring, and use them as cutflowers in indoor vases.
