Botanical Name

ARGYRANTHEMUM 'Dana'

Plant Common Name

Argyranthemum, Dana Marguerite Daisy, Marguerite Daisy

General Description

The floriferous and charming Marguerite daisy is one of the easiest ornamental fillers for sunny gardens. The cultivar 'Dana' is a compact grower with a roundy moundy habit. This tough shrubby tender perennial produces simple white daisies for continuous bloom that begins early and ends very late in the season. Where hardy, it is grown as a drought tolerant subshrub, but in temperate zones with cold winters it is grown as a bedding annual.

Marguerite daisy is shrubby and clump-forming. Its ferny evergreen leaves are bright green, deeply lobed and emit a strong fragrance when crushed. Small, white daisies with bright yellow eyes cover ‘Dana’ through much of the year. They are produced above the foliage and appear from late spring till frost or almost year round in frost-free climates. Flowering subsides in very hot weather and deadheading will prolong vigorous bloom.

This easy-to-grow plant prefers full sun and moderately fertile garden soil with good drainage. These tender perennials develop a dense mound of fine-textured light green foliage that can be clipped into a more precise form. In fact, regular light pruning will promote a tidy habit, increase flowering and provide cuttings for propagation. Plants are wind and salt tolerant, so they are ideal for oceanside gardens, containers, or sunny garden beds. The blooms draw butterflies and can also be cut for flower arrangements.
