General Description
A standard of comparison for the title of prettiest medium pink-flowering daisy, the Molimba® Mini Pink Marguerite daisy -- cultivar 'Argymip' -- is an upright but compact selection that blooms profusely. Its parent species is native to the Canary Islands, Madeira and other regions in Macaronesia where it survives in sloped terrain. Extensive breeding has resulted in the Molimba® cultivars, which are Syngenta Seed introductions. This open-pollinated cultivar was bred and selected by Anna Houbraken in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands.
This shrubby clump-forming selection has green, narrow-lobed leaves that emit a strong fragrance when crushed. Its daisies are produced just above the foliage from late spring till frost or almost year-round in frost-free climates. Molimba® Pink flowers have a central eye of orange and gold surrounded by bubblegum or cotton candy pink petals.
Molimba® Series Marguerite daisies are easy-to-grow plants that prosper in full sun and moderately fertile garden soil with good drainage. An evenly moist soil is best. Regular light pruning will promote compact growth, increase flowering and provide cuttings for propagation. Plants are wind and salt tolerant. They grow as tender perennials in frost-free climates and annuals in temperate zones.
Marguerite daisies are exceptional plants for seaside gardens and quick container gardens due to their fast growth and prolific flowering. In the heat of midsummer flowering may wane slightly, but pick up again in the comfortably warm to cool temperatures later. Use Marguerite daisies to embellish mixed beds and borders, especially those in hot microclimates.
