General Description

Magenta-rose, daisy-like flowers are a distinguishing feature of the Bright Carmine Marguerite daisy, cultivar 'Supalight'. The narrow, deeply cut, glossy dark green leaves have a feathery texture. This selection came from breeding efforts of Australian Daniel Bede McDonald. These short, upright yet compact plants bear lots of flowers on stem tips. They first appear early in the spring and continue for a long flowering season. Each flower opens with a button-like red-violet eye that fades to golden yellow with time. The eye is surrounded by bold magenta-rose or violet-red petals that age to a more pastel rose, pink or streaked white hue.

These bushy clump-forming perennials, most often grown as annuals from spring to fall, boast deep gray-green, deeply lobed leaves that are ferny and emit a strong fragrance when crushed. Flowers occur above the foliage and appear from late spring till frost or almost year round in frost free climates. Flowering subsides in very hot weather and deadheading will prolong vigorous bloom.

Bright Carmine Marguerite daisies are easy-to-grow plants, excelling in full sun and moderately fertile garden soil with good drainage. Regular light pruning will maintain compact growth, increase flowering and provide cuttings for propagation. Plants are wind and salt tolerant.

Grow any Marguerite daisy in seaside gardens, containers, or sunny garden beds. The blooms draw butterflies and can also be cut for flower arrangements.
