Family

Saxifragaceae

Botanical Name

ASTILBE 'Astary Rose'( ASTARY SERIES)

Plant Common Name

Astilbe

General Description

Like the other cultivars in the Astary Series, this astilbe is precocious and reliable. Plants started from seeds flower in their first summer, making it possibly buy small plants and still see bloom in their first year. An herbaceous perennial, ‘Astary Rose’ is stocky and branching, with glossy, dark-green, ferny leaves. Flower stems rise above the leaves in summer, topped by flower spikes that looka bit like Christmas trees. Tiny, closely packed flowers clothe the spikes, transforming them into feathery plumes. The flowers can persist for weeks, even after they dry.

Like most astilbes, ‘Astary Rose’ prefers, partial sun to partial shade and well-drained soil that is steadily moist. It blooms well in containers, making it a good choice for summer color on a deck or patio. Use it for summer bloom in shade beds and borders or massed as a groundcover in woodlands. It is also handsome mingled with hostas and ferns.
