Family

Saxifragaceae

Botanical Name

ASTILBE 'Hennie Graafland'( Simplicifolia Group)

Plant Common Name

Astilbe, False Spirea, Hennie Graafland False Spirea

General Description

Hennie Graafland false spirea is a clump-forming, herbaceous perennial that produces dark, bronze-green compound leaves and a drooping plume-like inflorescence of rose-pink in the summer. The flowerheads fade to attractive shades of brown in the fall, providing landscape interest through winter.

'Hennie Graafland' needs a well-drained moist soil in full sun to partial shade. A plant in full sun needs more moisture to remain looking its finest. It functions best in shade gardens, borders, rock gardens and are used for waterside plantings. Divide the plant every 3-4 years when overcrowding occurs in the clump.
