Botanical Name

Plant Common Name
Hybrid Japanese Astilbe, Japanese False Spirea, Montgomery False Spirea
General Description
Montgomery astilbe is a clump-forming, herbaceous perennial with plume-like flowers that appear in summertime. It is a beautiful cultivar with dark red to bronze-colored leaves and tall clusters of soft red flowers.
Astilbe requires full sun to partial shade and moist soil with average to good drainage. Its flowerheads fade to shades of brown in the late summer and can provide landscape interest through winter, though some prefer to cut them back. They function best in shade gardens, mixed borders, or rock garden. Plants may be divided every three to four years if they become overcrowded.
