General Description

The long cultivated English daisy is a charming, small, short-lived perennial. Members of the Early Series offer early season color with fully double (extra petals) daisies that resemble pompons above ground-hugging clumps of bright green foliage. Wild English daisies originate from the European grasslands and forest margins as far east as Turkey but are most commonly associated with England where they are favored. All grow best where summers are cool and temperate.

This series produces small basal clumps of semi-evergreen foliage that slowly spread by rhizomes. The flowers appear on short leafless stems from earlier in the season, beginning in late winter through summer and sporadically into mid-fall. They are attractive to bees and are easy to grow in the right climate.

Early Series English daisies grow and flower best in full sun and fertile, moist soil when temperatures are cool. They look better and flower for longer if spent flowerheads are removed. These cheerful perennials make fine additions to cottage gardens, perennial border edges and meadow plantings. Their small size also makes them suitable for container compositions.
