BELLIS perennis 'Early White'( EARLY SERIES)
Early White English Daisy, English Daisy
The long cultivated English daisy is a charming, small, short-lived perennial. ‘Early White’ offers fully double (extra petals) white daisies above ground-hugging clumps of bright green foliage. Wild English daisies originate from the European grasslands and forest margins as far east as Turkey but are most commonly associated with England where they are favored. All grow best where summers are cool and temperate.
This cultivar produces small basal clumps of semi-evergreen foliage that slowly spread by rhizomes. The double white flowers appear on short leafless stems from late winter to summer and sporadically into mid-fall. They are attractive to bees and are easy to grow in the right climate.
English daisy grows and flowers best in full sun and fertile, moist soil. It looks better and flowers for longer if its spent flowerheads are removed. This cheerful perennial makes a fine addition to cottage garden, perennial border edges and meadow plantings. Its small size also makes it suitable for container compositions.
