Family

Asteraceae

Botanical Name

BELLIS perennis 'Pomponette Mix'( POMPONETTE SERIES)

Plant Common Name

English Daisy, Pomponette Mix English Daisy

General Description

This hybrid mixture of the old-fashioned English daisy provides loads of small, button-like, densely-double flowers in shades of pink, white and rose-red. The charming, jewel-toned blossoms appear on short, upright, leafless stems and may bloom from late winter to summer, and sporadically into mid-fall.

Preferring cool temperatures, these diminutive perennials struggle in extreme heat, so are best planted in part shade where summers are hot. Otherwise, they can be planted in full sun and should be provided with fertile, moist soil. They make fine edging plants for cottage gardens and perennial borders, and are lovely in containers or planted among spring-blooming bulbs.

English daisy is native to grasslands and woodland edges of Europe as far east as Turkey. Long popular as a garden plant in England, it has been bred to create a range of colorful hybrids. These plants produce small, basal clumps of semi-evergreen foliage that may spread by rhizomes over time in cool summer climates. However, the more contemporary bedding varieties are short-lived in some areas, growing for just a few seasons before they die out entirely.
