General Description

A short-lived perennial, often grown as an annual, Mexican Gold™ Apache beggarticks is a upright-growing variety that has a more spreading to semi-trailing habit. It is early flowering and holds the flower clusters on fairly sturdy stems above the foliage. This plant species originates from the southern United States and Mexico, but 'Fisbimex' was selected as a result of a controlled breeding program in Germany in 2004. Apache beggarticks is heat-loving and has fern-like, rich green foliage. From early summer to fall it becomes adorned with a showy display of many bright yellow daisies. These are attractive to bees and butterflies and require little deadheading. Blossoms smell faintly of honey.

A tough plant for sunny sites, Mexican Gold™ Apache beggarticks grows best in rich to average soil with good drainage. It is perfect for sunny containers, hanging baskets, border edges or rock gardens. If this plant gets too leggy or encroaches onto nearby plants, it may be cut back hard to rejuvenate. Extremely cold winters kill Apache beggarticks, but it still makes a worthwhile annual.
