General Description

A short-lived perennial, often grown as an annual, Goldilocks Rocks™ Apache beggarticks is a upright-growing mounded variety. It is early flowering and holds the flower clusters on fairly sturdy stems above the foliage. This plant species originates from the southern United States and Mexico. Apache beggarticks is heat-loving and has fern-like, rich green foliage. From early summer to fall it becomes adorned with a showy display of many bright yellow daisies, perhaps with a hint of gold tones. These are attractive to bees and butterflies and require little or no deadheading to promote reblooming. Blossoms smell faintly of honey and usually have eight petals around the central disk. Small petaloids may also jut up from the disk, making the flower head look fuller or more ornate.

A tough plant for sunny sites, Goldilocks Rocks™ Apache beggarticks grows best in average to very fertile soils that are moist but well drained. It handles high summer temperatures and moderate drought with ease. Use this bidens cultivar in sunny containers, hanging baskets, border edges or rock gardens. If this plant gets too leggy or encroaches onto nearby plants, it may be cut back hard to rejuvenate. Extremely cold winters kill Goldilocks Rocks™, but it still makes a worthwhile annual.
