Botanical Name
BIDENS 'Radiant Globe Yellow'
Plant Common Name
Beggarticks, Radiant Globe Yellow Bidens
General Description
Almost every child, puppy and kitten has carried and dispersed the seeds of Bidens. Variously known as beggarsticks, sticktights, Spanish needles and bur marigolds, these annoying seeds are the product of sweet, daisy-like flowers.
This cultivar, ‘Radiant Globe Yellow,' is a spreading, tender, short-lived perennial with lax ferny leaves and semi-double (extra petals) daisy-like, broad-petalled yellow flowers atop upright stems. It flowers constantly from midsummer to fall. Deadheading encourages more bloom and keeps the spent flowers from going to seed. If allowed to makes seeds, this bidens, like most of its kin, will produce numerous seedlings and a weeding burden.
Give ‘Radiant Globe Yellow' well-drained soil and full sun. Its spreading habit makes it perfect for containers or hanging baskets and also in bedding and border plantings. It is good in butterfly gardens, or wildflower plantings, and the flowers are good for cutting and look pretty in arrangements. In northern climates grow it as an annual.
