General Description

These hybrid bougainvillea, a cross of Bougainvillea spectabilis and B. peruviana are very popular semi-evergreen vines that usually flower multiple times across the year. The small flowers are creamy-white and are surrounded by the colorful papery bracts that are coppery when young and then mature to vibrant shades of pink. Its large, dark green leaves are smooth and are held year-round, depending on temperature and soil moisture. It is a thorny plant that is going to need room to grow.

Plant bougainvillea in full to partial sun locations, although in very hot summer regions, partial sun is preferred. A fast-draining, yet fertile soil will provide the lushest vine, but this plant can handle many garden conditions, as long as the soil is not soggy. Grow this vigorous vine on a pergola, arbor or stone wall (freely climbing or as an espalier). It can be grown as an annual in colder regions or trimmed and brought inside as a houseplant over the winter.
