General Description

A low mounding plant that sprawls outward like a groundcover, 'City Lights' bears long flower stems that flop or rise above the frilly foliage. City Lights Swan River daisy is the result of a concerted breeding program of the mid-1990s by Peter George Abell of Cobbitty, New South Wales, Australia. A hybrid tender perennial, it's often used as a summer bedding annual that's killed by freezing temperatures.

The bright emerald green leaves are deeply and narrowly lobed, creating a mounded mat of fine-texture. A heavy-bloomer, this cultivar bears dark mauve to deep lavender daisy-like flowers with a bright yellow eye. Trimming off spend flowers encourages a prompt reblooming display.

Grow Swan River daisy in a full to partial sun location in a loamy soil that's moderately fertile but well-drained. Tolerant of heat of drought, an evenly moist soil ensures steady growth and flowering, although excessive humidity coupled with heat is not ideal. Use it as a filler to spill over the edges of containers or hanging baskets, or as an edging or groundcover in the foreground of mixed flower beds.
