Family

Solanaceae

Botanical Name

BRUGMANSIA x cubensis 'Charles Grimaldi'

Plant Common Name

Angel's Trumpet, Brugmansia, Charles Grimaldi Brugmansia

General Description

Vigorous and lovely, 'Charles Grimaldi' is best known for its huge, showy orange flowers. This hybrid angel's trumpet is a highly attractive tropical evergreen shrub to small tree. Throughout the season it produces pendulous, creamy orange, trumpet-shaped blooms that have wide open mouths that curve back. These are particularly fragrant, attract moths and contrast nicely with its large medium green leaves.

Heat, humidity and sun-loving, angel’s trumpet grows best in rich soil with good drainage and requires regular watering. It grows well in containers, and looks super in foundation plantings of mixed borders. It is killed back to its roots in regions with winter frosts or mild subfreezing temperatures; it then sprouts in the late spring once soils have warmed considerably. Where not hardy, it may be planted as an annual or taken inside to overwinter. It hot summer areas even partial shade exposures may be best for 'Charles Grimaldi'.
