BUDDLEJA davidii 'Royal Red'
Orange-eye Butterflybush, Royal Red Butterflybush
Royal red butterflybush is a compact, upright to arching shrub that originates from China and Japan. It has gray-green leaves and produces large, elongated clusters of dark rose flowers from mid-summer to frost. Plants prefer full sun and can tolerate a wide range of well-drained soils. This is a wonderful shrub for attracting butterflies, but plants tend to freely sow themselves throughout the garden and beyond. In warm climates they may be semi-evergreen. Butterflybush is quite drought tolerant and provides summer interest to sunny mixed borders and foundation plantings.
