Late summer is time for the display of puffy, frilly, frizzy blossoms! The Ballet Series of China aster includes a collection of bushy annuals, all native to China. Green foliage is accented by a range of colorful blooms the size of golf balls. Nearly all double (extra petals) formed, the flower petals are needle-thin and are colored either white, pink, rose, salmon, magenta, violet or purple with a white center. The large frizzy-petaled flowers are held on compacted upright plants.
China aster can be planted in loam or sandy soil in well drained conditions and full sun. Do not bother to deadhead spent blossoms as it will not reflower. This plant is susceptible to yellow wilt so avoid overwatering or poorly drained soils as once leaf yellowing occurs there is no treatment. It is ideal for a cutflower or as an en masse, border or container planting.
