Botanical Name
CAMELLIA sasanqua 'Mine-no-yuki'
Plant Common Name
Camellia, Mine-no-yuki Sasanqua, Sasanqua
General Description
This evergreen shrub to small tree has an upright to rounded form. Asian in origin, ‘Mine-No-Yuki’ has small, double, fragrant white flowers that appear from late winter to early spring. When not in bloom, camellia continues to look attractive due to its glossy elliptical evergreen foliage that contrasts nicely with its smooth gray bark.
This camellia is moderately cold tolerant and prefers partial shade, and moist, acidic, well-drained soil. In the landscape, it may be used in hedges, foundations, mixed borders or as a specimen plant. The evergreen leaves and tender flower buds of camellia may suffer from sunscald and wind desiccation in winter, so avoid planting them in highly exposed areas.
