Family

Campanulaceae

Botanical Name

CAMPANULA 'Birch Hybrid'

Plant Common Name

Bellflower, Birch Hybrid Bellflower

General Description

Resulting from a cross between Campanula portenschlagiana and C. poscharskyana, this low, carpeting herbaceous perennial bears showy purple-blue flowers over a long season.

This hardy, trailing perennial spreads by underground runners to form a mat of prostrate stems. The stems are densely clothed with small, toothed, oval to heart-shaped leaves that are evergreen in mild winters. The large, erect, flaring, bell-shaped flowers appear in abundance from late spring through much of summer.

Grow 'Birch Hybrid' in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It's perfect for a rock garden, patio, or wall, or as a small-scale ground cover.
