General Description

Lavender bellflower is an abundantly flowering, dwarf, compact perennial originating in western Asia and Europe. Large bright-blue to white, bell-shaped flowers present themselves above lush, round, dark green foliage from spring throughout fall. In the first flush of summer flowers, the foliage is usually masked with scores upon scores of blooms.

Grow lavender bellflower in full sun to part shade in loose, moist but well-drained soil. The cooler the summer, the finer the performance of this plant. Do not allow the soil to dry out. Shear off the dead flowers to keep it blooming. This bellflower makes a lovely long-lasting display in hanging baskets and containers, and provides season-long color as a groundcover. This compact plant is also well suited to alpine beds, rock gardens, or mixed borders. Cultivar 'Isabella Blue' is a neat, bluish lavender flowering plant.
